I told Jenn that I wasn't going to post anything controversial on my blog for awhile. you go...complete, pure, radiant innocence...breathtaking

I spent my day getting to know my new niece yesterday. Sunday was the day of her blessing, an LDS ritual similar to a Catholic christening, followed by a big family dinner and a birthday celebration just for me!.

Farewell 30. You've been a great year. A year of Paris and climbing the Swiss Alps, a year of becoming an Aunt for the fifth time, of seeing people I love get married, of starting my own business, of completely restructuring my belief system, of realizing what is important, of budding love, of orange skies and mountain meadows, Harlem nights and Broadway lights, of sweet kisses and afternoon naps, of voracious reading and endless girl talk, of new houses and summer flowers, of journal writing and secret longings, of directing and acting, of long walks, talking to the moon, painting my visions, praying, blue sweaters, and most of all....each of you! It will end with my trip to Argentina tomorrow.....and when I get back on the 15th, I'll welcome 31 with open arms.

Hey...I didn't ask you to do that! I don't mind controversial.(Just so everyone knows.)

Happy (almost) 31st birthday! Let me tell ya, having been 31 for about 9 months now, it really sucks! Just kidding. I'm sure you'll fill your days with such adventurous and journal-worthy experience such as the ones you listed in this post all throughout your 31st year as well. Cheers!

What a sweet picture of the both of you.

FYI, I finally told my Bish that I was leaving the ward for the singles ward life. I'm terrified.

Have fun on your trip, let's get together when you get back.

Jenn! I know you didn't ask me! I told you that I was because I was getting to tired...but I am glad we cleared that up.

Unfortunately my mind has been chalk full of a post about The Sacrament and the Sinner that I just know would pique everyone's interest...maybe in a few weeks!!

Good for you, I was actually going to call you. I went to part of sacrament meeting yesterday. I only made it 20 minutes. It was fast and testimony meeting, I don't think I need to say any more...though I could.

Happy Birthday, D'Arcy. I'm so glad this year has made us friends.

And yes, I made April take about 50 pictures of me until I had one I was satisfied with. It's so hard because I take these beautiful photos of everyone (which I think my family just takes for granted) and then I can't ever find anyone who can return the favor!!! Every one in my immediate vicinity is photography challenged! Seriously, they don't know how to get a shot that isn't blurry, awkward, makes me look like I am slow or derranged!! Sigh....and yes, I am picky about photos, I probably shouldn't be, but hey, we all want to look good.

Yes Alisa....NEW FRIENDSHIPS have been the most important part of this year!!

GORGEOUS baby... isn't family wonderful! That sweet baby scent and sweet baby cheeks against your face.... almost makes me want another one of my own (almost!).

Have a marvelous time on your trip - I can't wait to hear all about it! (My Dad spent a fair amount of time in Buenos Aires back in the 50's and loved it!)

Can't wait to talk to you when you're back, my dear friend. Perhaps by then I will have "brokered the deal" with Colin... still working FEVERISHLY to do so! :-)

Love you, friend!

btw... for the record, 30's ROCK!

I'm hoping I have half as much fun in my 40's as I did in my 30's.

For ME, 30's was a time of tremendous self-discovery! (And you're clearly on that journey!)

Talk to you soon, dahling...!

Oh, okay, HWHL...I was being sarcastic about the thirties sucking. I like them better than my twenties, which I liked better than my teens. (Which means I should like my forties better than my thirties, right?)

What I DON'T like about being 31: My SKIN! What happened?! It is losing color and elasticity and is gaining lines and...wierd stuff, like hair in wierd places, etc. I really DON'T like that part of aging.

D'Arcy said... sound like a monster.

i love these gorgeous pictures of you and the babe.
and i love your sentiments about what's happened in your life this year...what a good way to take stock. i usually just let my birthdays pass, not this year!
and i know what you mean about the pictures! there are practically no pictures of me and about 50,000 of each of my kids and a few less than that of nate. but i don't really like my picture taken so i don't mind. but i probably wouldn't mind as much if they turned out decent...
anyway, have fun in argentina!

Seriously, D'Arcy, don't make me come all the way to Utah and prove it to ya. I'm down right scary these days.

(Yes, in case you were wondering, it is another one of those nights with nothing to do, but veg on the bed with my baby...I mean, my computer.)

And I am sitting here grading essays on French Naturalism...why do I do this to myself. Today I really wanted to quit my job. Some days, man, I wish I could. Work is sucking the life out of me!!

Kia ora D'Arcy,
Thank you for your support. I have only begun to fight! That is an exceptionally cool photo of you and the bubba.
Please have a safe and very enjoyable trip. I am sure it will be an awesome experience. And by the way, Happy Birthday!

Welcome to your thirtysomethings! It's a great period, so much more satisfying than your twenties, I think. Even if you do get creaky and a little crackly around the edges, it's balanced out by juicing of the inner life, the smoothing out of THOSE inner edges.

Your thirtieth year sounds like it was a great one. So full!

Just imagine how full 31 will be.

Okay... so I just totally missed your birthday... ooooopppsss!!! I have been swimming in a sea of Back To School, neglecting friends in the Blogoshpere. Forgive me, Big D! I only hope you will bless me with stories from Argentina.

BTW: Argentina? Dude! WTH??? What's up with all the globe trotting, eat pray love, making shoog jealous, traveling mama stuff??
