I miss the Girls!!!
So I have been thinking all weekend about Rand, objectivism, egoism, altruism, religion, and other pretty deep topics, yet, when I woke this morning I just had a terrible sense of how much I miss Lorelai and Rory!!! I know, a post on collectivism verses the individual will soon be coming, but for now, let me just say that I miss the girls of Gilmore.
I became slightly addicted to GG when I came down with one of the most horrific illnesses of my life in New York City. I was unable to walk or sit up and I had to get a cab, lay in the back, and ask them to take me to the ER as I was dying. The cabbie barely batted an eyelash and sped with alacrity to the NYU emergency facilities. If he would have offered to help me into the actual building we might be married by now. So, in recovery, my roommate Becky introduced me to GG. This was 2004 and Gilmore Girls had just started it's forth season. I watched season 1 straight through in about 2.5 days. I credit it with my continued desire to live. Ever since then I have been an addict. Yes, hello, my name is D'Arcy and I am addicted to Gilmore Girls and Hagen-Daz Chocolate Peanut Butter ice-cream.
Gilmore Girls taught me about the Sex Pistols, Bill Moyers and the Power of Myth (how else would you want to spend spring break?), the Pixies, Norman Mailer, Elsa Clench, Merlin Perkins, and whether I want a "Nick & Nora" or a "Sid & Nancy" type of love.
Man, there is just an empty void that I can't shake every Tuesday night at 7 pm
Now, can I get to the really crazy part. I actually had a notebook that I would write down particularly funny phrases that I wanted to remember. I KNOW!!! It's insanely weird and wrong, but just read on, I promise you'll laugh.
HERE IT IS---SOME OF THE FUNNIEST LINES FROM THE WORLD OF GILMORE:
"While He is being sexy--he's also being grammatically correct." --Rory
"I know I've always dreamed that a boy would give me a really confusing Czechoslovakian novel." --Lane
"I guess this goes on the 'Boy Was I Wrong List' right below gauchos, but above the Flashdance phase." --Lorelai
"I'm afraid once your heart is involved it all comes out in moron." --Lorelai
"Stop her!"
"How?!"
"Show her a picture of Nick Nolte's mug shot!"
"Bob Hope is laughing in heaven, but I'm not." --Rory
"Let me check my spinster calendar..." --Lorelai
"I'm smiling because you're crazy and that's what you do to crazy people to keep them calm." --Rory
Logan: You're special, Rory.
Rory: Like "stop eating the paste" kind of special?
"Because Rory, when I read my autobiography I don't want to be bored!" --Paris
"There is no use for lava lamps unless you are on drugs." --Emily Gilmore
"You once told me you loved 'Saved by the Bell', what can be more humiliating than that?" --Lorelai
And Finally---Hep Alien's Finest Moment:
Zach: Yeah. Dave, you're a Christian. So what? That's cool.
Brian: It's nothing to hide.
Zach: Christians can still rock.
Dave: They can?
Lane: Yeah, yeah, Dave. Christians can still rock, don't hide it.
Zach: Marshall Stacks don't know Christians from atheists.
Dave: Gosh, I just wasn't sure if you guys would be accepting of my devoutness.
Brian: Dave, it's a part of you, and we think you're cool, so it's cool.
Dave: Great. Thanks, guys.
Zach: But no way are we playing Creed, man.
Dave: Oh, no, of course not.
Zach: Or Amy Grant. That's where we draw the line.

I miss GG too...but I sometimes watch the reruns on ABC Family! Does that make me pathetic?
p.s. Have you ever watched Veronica Mars? It was unfairly yanked from the "new" CW, but is definitely worth watching on DVD. :)
Thank you for that trip down memory lane. I too miss the Gilmore Girls and was actually thinking about it as well.
And watching reruns isn't pathetic. I found all these clips someone posted on Youtube of "Jess and Rory" moments and I have watched all 20 something clips on more than one occasion. Now THAT is kind of sad.
one of my favorite lines is "oy with the poodles already!" i'm so glad you brought this up, i miss gg too! it was one of the smartest, funniest shows ever.
Ah! I LOVE Gilmore Girls so much!!!!!
It is quite possibly the best television show ever. I love the episode where Lorelei asks "Where are all the anvils? Is there some secret government storage facility?"
I don't need any more addictions! Stop trying to lure me in!
It does sound hilarious.
D'Arcy, I'm so proud to be credited with introducing you the basically one the dopest show in TV history. I mean, what other show will stump with you with obscure references to pop culture. It always made me feel cool when I actually got one of them. A memorable line for me: "I am a huge fan of guys. You don't get knocked up at 16 being indifferent to guys."
I love it! I didn't until about two years ago, but totally catch re-runs at 10 a.m. whenever possible (yeah, on ABC Family), and whenever I see it's on at night, I watch that too! I am a self-proclaimed dork, but, hey, what're ya gonna do?
Haagen Dazs has a Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor? How did I not know about this!
I'll talk to you later... I gotta go.
Dear D'Arcy
Lauren Graham has always blown me away. There is something magical deep inside her and her Lorelai character.
GG girls rock.
It's a cryin' shame that Amy Sherman's show completely bombed on Fox. I guess even if you have the genius of Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose, if you lack the earlier wit of these lines you've posted, you really will only get 3 episodes before you're yanked. Good riddance.
Ms. Bee! Guess what?! June 2009! Europe! YOU! I am pretty sure I am going! I'm serious! Just don't say anything to my mom, yet about me "thinking" I am going.
I went to the library tonight, because I have taken a sudden interest in Dante's Inferno, and picked up a copy of Divine Comedy, and said, "I think I'll come to the library a lot this summer; so I can read, you know?"
And my mother said, "Well, you might want to start your fundraiser for Europe with Ms. Bee, right?"
WOO!
SO excited.
So, what do you hear? What's the scuddlebutt?

I liked this a lot! I could finally understand what those girls were saying...they talk SO fast.
I have a roommate to thank for GG too. I wasn't sick but she loved them and I got hooked. I did like the earlier seasons more, when the dialogue was witty, fast, but believeable of the uber-cool. The later seasons seemed too clever at times.
And I loved Dave Rygalski. Why is Adam Brody so cute?!
Glad you shared the quotes, I now know I should add "sexy but also grammatically correct" to the list of what I'm looking for in a guy.
Here's a link you might like, but it could be addictive.

Okay, Okay, I'm late on finding your blog, late on blogging, but here's something sad...I recognized every single one of those quotes, I remember the episodes, I could probably tell you the seasons. Oh, and the Lava Lamp quote was Talyor Dosy, not Emily Gilmore...
I watched the girls the first season, then got too busy with school and only caught it occasionally...then, after Anjali was born, I became addicted to the reruns...there's nothing to do when you're breastfeeding but watch TV. Anyway, they've been my friends through these past two years when Fai's been super busy with the school/work thing....thankfully, he gave me all seven seasons, so if you're really missing it, you should come on by and we'll have a marathon!
Oh wow, this is awesome! (seriously! haha). And yea, like someone else said, is it weird that I remember all those lines? =D
Yep, I'm also going to have to say that it was a roommate who introduced me to GG 4 years ago, I started watching it halfway into season 4 (Thank God for amazing roommates!). Sometime last year that same roommate got the entire 7 seasons on DVD (wheee~). Its been great watching all those episodes, I definitely enjoyed the older seasons more (Longan bothered me a little at first =P).
This was great, really, I'm linking it to my blog =)
Oh and great blog by the way! =D
