(Only the first three minutes of this video are relevant to this post, but you know, listen to it all, it's Ella!)
So, I am back on track, that means back to work, back to guitar lessons, back to voice lessons, back to eating only normal amounts of rice pudding (what IS a normal amount of pudding?)
This is the new song I chose to work on this month for my voice lessons. I don't sing it quite like Ella, um, not at all.... but I am working on my jazzy, slow, seductive voice (too bad I am a natural soprano!)...and one day, I want to be just like this, with a pianist and his smoking cigar, I'll pull out my old glasses from 6th grade (which were about that big) and reenact this...and sound almost as good.....
hmmm.....or maybe I see this dream in a nightclub, and I have Lana Turner hair and I am in a silver sequin gown that catches the low light so it looks like I am glowing, and my lips will be super red, and my lashes thick and heavy, and I'll be sitting on TOP of the piano and wowing the old 1940s crowd, and then a solider, on leave, with catch my eye, and he'll look like Viggo Mortensen (because putting his name on my blog ups the number of people who stop by to see what's what) and he'll give me a knowing glance and I'll start singing just to him, as I inch across that black piano....one eye covered by a perfect blonde wave....and he'll raise his glass to me....and....and....
ok, this could go on all night, and I have lesson plans to create! Darn...this is so much more fun...I always knew I would make a great romance writer, I just couldn't bring myself to do it....

you are KILLING me, girl... and yes, you nailed it. I'm hoping for LOTS of traffic with my latest post. I'm just shameless that way.
Ahem.
I would love to hear you sing. I'm sure your voice is beautiful. You know, in the shower, I AM Whitney Houston AND Mariah Carey AND Joss Stone all rolled into one. Did you know that? Yes. It's true. It's JUST a matter of time before I'm discovered. ;-)
But for now, I just lay little traps to try to snare Viggo. At the VERY least, to get him to approve my friend request on FaceBook. LOL. :-)
On a non-joking note, I'm glad you're back on schedule. Summers are nice - NOT having schedules are nice (for a period), but as I have said, I'm a Virgo (as are you) and I like order and routine very much.
Have a lovely rest of the week and let's chat again soon! :-)
Further to the lovely image you painted in your post, I'm imagining a soldier on leave, looking like Viggo.... catching your eye while you're the gorgeous chanteuse.... my GOODNESS but what fun a single girl like you could have with THAT.
(Me, being happily married, I'll just have to live vicariously through the steamy details you'll give me later....) LOL.
Actually, I think a short story might be in order, Miss D'Arce...
:-)
I love it! What about running away together and living off all your novel-publishing money? Surely, a sultry-voiced, rich authoress like you could afford it!
Kia ora D'Arcy,
I have an old version of this song with her singing accompanied by the late great jazz pianist Oscar Peterson.
I would love to be in the audience watching your performance, a smokey jazz club, scotch on the rocks, how cool! Tara and I spent a night in Chicago at a few joints and it was like your description exactly. Oh the good ol' days eh! Kia ora D'Arcy.
Rangimarie
Robb
Viggo Mortensen...now that is something nice to think about!
Glad your getting back on track and eating normal amounts of pudding...so what is normal anyways?
Great imagination..great story...maybe a book someday?
Eduardo is crushed by the way. He just left my house; he was sobbing, and it took several long hugs for me to make him feel better. (The work of a true friend is, alas.... never done.)
Just thought you should know.
Love Viggo. Love Ella. Good story. Did you know that Viggo is a photographer, too?
Ooh - great taste in guys and music D'Arcy! Please please please post a video of this on youtube (have always dreamed of singing but will save it for the shower!) I'm thinking Michelle Pfeiffer in the fab Baker Boys!
You are a woman of so many talents! I didn't know you took voice lessons as well. I see you as one of those women in the Austen novels/movies where you can do everything at the drop of a hat. Recite poetry? Take an amazing photograph? Sing a song? Paint a picture? D'Arcy can do it all!
What was that last part? You...what was that?...couldn't bring yourself to be...a romance novel writer?
I have one 300 page first draft in the bottom of my endtable drawer that says otherwise.
(Talk about blast from the past. Are you surprised that I kept it?)
HWHL--Man, Joss Stone, that girl can rock it, I don't think I can ever have that much sexy groove, but I like to pretend.
Alisa--if dreams came true, I would travel the world writing and singing and creating and not EVER having to worry about money....so, I guess I could just create characters who do live that way...but where would the drama come in?
Robb...Chicago you say? Once I have perfected the act I will be looking for a gig there!
smiles4u--yeah, "normal" amounts of pudding, I don't know what the means obviously....a book, a movie, a song...romance provides an endless array of possibilities!
HWHL--if we really ARE creating our dream lives here...how about Eduardo one week and Viggo the next? Ah....that would be heaven...now let's throw in someone hot who speaks French and I think we will have created the perfect man....
Rowena--yep, know that, love his poetry, love his language abilities, love his talent, just love him.
kate--the fab baker boys was JUST the sultry I was thinking about!
Stina! Stop, I am blushing! The tragedy of my life will be that I will dabble in just about EVERYTHING, but never put enough time and devotion to be a MASTER and one thing....such is life.
Jenn--I AM surprised you have it! Man oh man! That was NOT a romance, however...that was a COMING of age...there was no sex...just some sexual tension, which all novels need...ah, I love that book...glad I wrote it...it was SO happy. everything now seems just a bit darker than that.
I've been tainted by age and experience!
Ah, Viggo. I raised a few in-law eyebrows when I got a tour of my sister-in-law's new house and saw the amazing double doors that led to my nephews' bedroom. I stood there stunned and said before I could stop myself, "I'm sorry, but bedroom doors like that ought be opened by Viggo Mortensen, not 11 year old boys!"
Hope you get the hits! And the song.
You are so funny...
I'm picturing Kathleen Turner finishing up her romance novel as it cuts away from all the swashbucking and back to her NY apartment and her typewriter... and the endless boxes of tissue... as she calls her editor to tell her she has finished yet another romance masterpiece. Hey! Kathleen Turner had a deep smokey voice, too... I wonder if she could sing How High The Moon on a piano with a cigarette wielding piano player??? Nah... that's YOUR part to play!
And by Kathleen Turner, I am referencing the movie with Michael Douglas before he got old... what was it called... dang it... I know you'll know... ROMANCING THE STONE! That's it!
God, I need more coffee.
ooooh, that is a slow and sultry song. me-likey. and i, too, would love to hear you croon. you should set up a concert just for people who read your blog, and i, my dear, would be in the front row!
did you know that i took voice lessons? yep, for a couple of years in high school. it was so much fun. i loved it.
mapelba--that story made me laugh! I agree! What is a little boy doing with double doors? They should either be opened by Viggo...or opened by me, letting Viggo in!
Sugar! That movie is SUCH a family favorite! Oh My gosh, I LOVED those two together...her in her little high heels in the wilderness that he just chops off with a huge sword he happens to have....she got her real life romance...I'm counting on the same!
She IS sultry...however, I saw her in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" either last year or the year before on Broadway and the sultry has turned to manly, I don't know if it is smoking or just the way her voice ages, but it lost a bit of its regular appeal. She WAS fantastic in that play though!
jo, i didn't know that! That's awesome. We should do a duet!
And yeah, I don't sing for many people unless we are ALL doing some form of karaoke...
Chicago?
Perhaps, but I would rather see you in a club on the Left Bank in the City of Light singing in French in a deep blue shimmering dress.
Gus, I'll work on that number for Paris in November..it will be all rainy outside and smoky inside and I'll sing a Carla Bruni song, all soft and slow....that will be awesome!
