There is Romance in the Air

I am in a romantic mood. And if you go to youtube and type in "best movie kisses ever" and watch people kissing for a good solid twenty minutes, you will be too.

I remember a line from a movie that my family and I mocked mercilessly, but we still say it all the time....with a southern accent as was said in the movie Twins..."Don't cha just love love?"

So, I would love to hear your top movie kisses! I had to limit mine to 10 (I believe I mentioned earlier that it was 5, but that's almost impossible!!), but didn't want to post them all with video:

1. My Bluberry Nights--Table Kiss
2. Amelie--The Small Kisses
3. From Here to Eternity--Beach Kiss
4. Before Sunrise--Sunset Kiss
5. Some Kind of Wonderful--Friend Kiss
6. A Room With a View--Italian Mountain Stolen Kiss accompanied by his Creedo--Beauty, Truth!!!!
7. Love Actually--The goodnight kiss between Sarah (Laura Linney) and Carl
8. The Last of the Mohicans--Daniel Day Lewis at his finest and most tan!
9. The Mirror Has Two Faces--The dancing/kissing scene at the end, complete with Opera!
10. Inventing the Abbotts--Classic couch kissing scene...boy slides closer...gril slides away...until the both reach the end of the couch. ah-yeah!

Hmm, I will have to think about this...

So far I am thinking Hugh Grant and Renee Zellweger in BJD. Also Reality Bites-even though they're real grungy.

OK, first of all - "A Room with a View" is one of my very FAVES! Long live Lucy Honeychurch & George! (I loved George - wasn't it Julian Sands who played him?? He was beautiful.) (Sigh)

My personal favorite movie kiss was in that movie with Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe ("Proof of Life" I think it was called.) It was the scene when Russell Crowe's character is getting ready to go into the jungle to look for Meg Ryan's husband, who has been kidnapped by some sort of terrorist group. There's been this whole slow build-up of sexual tension between these two and they have this KISS (and boy, is it ever a kiss) before he gets on the helicopter to go out into the jungle. Oh my... I practically swoon every time I see it. Russell Crowe is definitely not the most handsome actor in the world, but he has some sort of raw, manly sexiness goin' on, THAT'S for sure.

Good post! You got me thinkin' bout some good kissing now, D'Arcy! (Wherever is my husband, when I REALLY need him???) :-)

Kia ora D'Arcy,
I wagged work yesterday and cuddled up with my wife in the afternoon to watch a movie in front of the fire. It is winter here in New Zealand.
I wonder if you have ever seen "Once"? It doesn't have any kissing, yet it is a love story, and has heaps of music. One of the coolest movie experiences I have had in a long time. Have a great day.
Rangimarie,
Robb

Nice post D'Arcy

My vote is for Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca. He only kisses her a couple of times, but each one is as if it was his last. She is devastatingly beautiful and you can see the pain in his eyes.

Part of the intensity of a kiss lies in the tension before the kiss - especially with someone you have never kissed before. Ethan Hawke and Julie display this tension. He is more nervous and uncertain than she. She is in control, she kisses him really, which rocks.

I also like the idea of a kiss that does not always begin with the lips. I sometimes prefer to start elsewhere such as the hands, the curves around the neck, the eyelids or even the delicate tops of a woman's toes.

"Play it Again Sam" from Casablanca:

[This day and age we're living in
Gives cause for apprehension
With speed and new invention
And things like fourth dimension.
Yet we get a trifle weary
With Mr. Einstein's theory.
So we must get down to earth at times
Relax relieve the tension

And no matter what the progress
Or what may yet be proved
The simple facts of life are such
They cannot be removed.]

You must remember this
A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh.
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by.

And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you."
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by.

Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date.
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate.
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate
That no one can deny.

It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die.
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.

Oh yes, the world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.

Chelle--BJD was high on my list, as well as RB. You know me too well!! And with Ethan Hawke, I never mind the grunge.

HWHL-Geroge IS beautiful and will always be, thank goodness for film freezing people in time. I also LOVE Daniel Day-Lewis as Cecil in that movie....now there is a first kiss NEVER to replicate!

Robb!!! That is one of my obsessions right now. I listent to it, watch it, went to see Glen and Marketa's concert here recently, they were AMAZING live! Oh my goodness, best concert I have ever been to! I had "Falling Slowly" on that CD I made for you, luckily I took it off right before burning time, as I am sure you have the entire album. Glen was in a band called The Frames before he did once, they have some great tunes, you should check them out!

Gustav--I am getting to know you too well...I knew you'd put Casablanca here, that's why I specifically left it off! And the weirdest thing, I found that song last night on an old CD I haven't listened to in years....and I listened to it. Are you reading my mind?

My favorite movie kiss is at the end of The Princess Bride. It's not a classic like Casablanca, but it's the one that always comes to mind. The narrator is describing it as "the most pure" kiss that left all other kisses behind. I love watching the sun rise from behind the hills as they realize they are safe and can now start their lives together... aaahhh...

Sugar! I would never edit you out! I think your comment was under the "You Break His Heart, I Break Your Face" Posting!

And I agree, I was sorely remiss to leave out that alltime amazing kiss!

Jomama, I think ONCE might have been the most romantic movie I have seen this year. It proves that feelings and actions (instead of just a lot of sex) is truly the most romantic of all!

not enough caffeine yesterday... oopsy!

Hey... by the way... is it getting hot on your blog or WHAT? hahaha

So I was thinking about our meeting half way. Are you planning to go to Blogher? There are only a few slots left. I'm biting my nails trying to figure it out, but I will definitely be in the City. Maybe I'll sneak in. Dooce would be proud. haha

Sugar! It is getting hot in here...too bad it's all so virtual!

I'm not going to blogher.....but it sounds awesome. However, I could totally swing a few days in San Fran....probably mid August. I have a pretty tight schedule until then....

What would you think about that? Then we could go out on the town and see the "sites" that San Fran has to offer two single gals. That would be so much fun to meet you in real life!

I'm there!

My daughter and sister live up there, so I always have a reason to head up. Plus, we'll have insider tips on where to go for the best... um.. drinks!

Love love love Room with a View!

Also love When Harry Met Sally, the kiss is fine but what he says before is what sells it, "When you decide you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

And I love the scene in Stranger than Fiction when he plays guitar and she kisses him. Although I was worried about someone breaking the guitar. Maybe I'm not romantic enough.
